IT Essentials II: Network Operating Systems, sponsored by Hewlett-Packard Company, is an intensive introduction to multi-user, multitasking network operating systems. This 70-hour, hands-on, lab-oriented course is designed to be an overview of network operating systems and specifically covers the Linux Red Hat Network operating system. Students will learn how to use the Linux operating system, the K Desktop Environment (KDE), and GNU Network Object Model (GNOME). This course will be a stepping stone to help prepare students for challenging careers, such as skilled hardware support professional and Linux support professional. Acquired competencies include:
  • Configuration of network services, including basic network security and troubleshooting.
  • Use fundamental command-line features of the Linux environment including file system navigation, file permissions, the vi text editor, command shells, and basic network use.
  • Explore GUI features including Applications Manager, Text Editor, printing, and mail.
  • Know basic administrative tasks with Windows 2000.
