CCENT Certification Information

The Cisco CCENT (Cisco Certified Entry Networking Technician) certification validates the skills required for entry-level network support positions, the starting point for many successful careers in networking. CCENT certification indicates a candidate's knowledge and skills required to successfully install, operate, and troubleshoot a small branch office network., including connecting to a WAN; basic security and wireless concepts; routing and switching fundamentals; the TCP/IP and OSI models; IP addressing; WAN technologies; operating and configuring IOS devices; configuring RIPv2, static and default routing; implementing NAT and DHCP; and configuring simple networks.

CCNA Certification Information

The Cisco CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) certification indicates the knowledge and skills required to install, operate, and troubleshoot a small to medium size enterprise branch network. CCNA certifies knowledge in areas including connecting to a WAN; implementing network security; network types; network media; routing and switching fundamentals; the TCP/IP and OSI models; IP addressing; WAN technologies; operating and configuring IOS devices; extending switched networks with VLANs; determining IP routes; managing IP traffic with access lists; establishing point-to-point connections; and establishing Frame Relay connections.
After successfully completing the CCNA course, students may research available testing center locations for the CCNA exam by reviewing the information at the Pearson VUE testing partner website (www.PearsonVUE.com).

CCNP Certification Information

The Cisco CCNP (Cisco Certified Network Professional) certification validates a network professional's ability to install, configure and troubleshoot converged local and wide area networks with 100 to 500 or more nodes. Network Professionals who achieve the CCNP certification have demonstrated the knowledge and skills required to manage the routers and switches that form the network core, as well as edge applications that integrate voice, wireless, and security into the network.
After successfully completing the CCNP course, students may research available testing center locations for the CCNP exam by reviewing the information at the Pearson VUE testing partner website (www.PearsonVUE.com).

CompTIA Certifications

Exam Discounts are available from CompTIA for IT Essentials: PC Hardware and Software, IT Essentials II: NOS, Fundamentals of UNIX and CCNA Graduates.
CompTIA is offering graduates of specific Cisco Networking Academy courses a Student Voucher discount on corresponding certification exams. This discount is usually a 20-30% discount from the full retail price. You can check CompTIA's site, http://certification.comptia.org/default.aspx, for exam pricing in your country and then check the voucher for your discount.
If your educational institution is a CompTIA Education to Career (E2C) member (see note below) you will receive the E2C member discount. The following list shows the Academy courses that match up with CompTIA certification exam discount vouchers:

  • IT Essentials: PC Hardware and Software = CompTIA A+ exams
  • IT Essentials: PC Hardware and Software and IT Essentials II: NOS v2.0 (need both) = CompTIA Server+ exam
  • Fundamentals of UNIX and IT Essentials II: NOS (need both) = CompTIA Linux+ exam
  • CCNA (all courses) and IT Essentials: PC (need both) = CompTIA Network+ exam
  • To learn more about these certifications go to http://www.comptia.org.

Once students have successfully completed the required Academy course(s), a certification voucher link will appear on their Student Home page under the Career Development section. When a student clicks on that link they will be taken to the CompTIA Website where they can request their discount coupon/voucher.

CompTIA A+

CompTIA A+ Certification is a CompTIA sponsored testing program that certifies the competency of entry-level computer service technicians. There are two different CompTIA A+® exams which lead to certification. These tests cover a broad range of technologies but are not vendor specific. CompTIA A+ certification signifies that the certified individual possesses the knowledge and skills essential for a successful entry-level computer service technician. The CompTIA A+ tests are available globally in a variety of languages through testing centers, which are listed on the CompTIA Website at http://www.CompTIA.org.The Cisco Networking Academy IT Essentials: PC Hardware and Software course helps to prepare students to take both of the exams necessary for this certification.

CompTIA Server+

CompTIA Server+ Certification is a CompTIA sponsored testing program that deals with Industry Standard Server Architecture (ISSA) issues, such as RAID, SCSI, multiple CPUs, SANs - and more. The level of complexity is above that of the fundamentals of a PC, making the A+ certification a good pre-cursor to CompTIA Server+. This certification is geared toward mid to upper level technicians responsible for server hardware maintenance. There is one exam, which covers an in-depth understanding of planning, installing, configuring and maintaining servers, including knowledge of server-level hardware implementations, data storage subsystems, data recovery and I/O subsystems. Interrelationships of all parts of the server system and the ramifications of their actions are also covered. The Cisco Networking Academy courses, IT Essentials: PC Hardware and Software and IT Essentials II: Network Operating Systems version 2.0, will help prepare students to take the CompTIA Server+ exam.

CompTIA Linux+

CompTIA Linux+ Certification is a CompTIA sponsored testing program, which measures foundation-level Linux operating system proficiency. This certification is appropriate for individuals who are interested in demonstrating fundamental Linux knowledge and skills. The exam covers basic installation, operation and troubleshooting services for the Linux operating system and hardware on workstations and servers. Sys Admin basics are also part of the CompTIA Linux+ learning objectives. The Cisco Networking Academy courses, Fundamentals of UNIX and IT Essentials II: Network Operating Systems, will help prepare students to take the CompTIA Linux+ exam.

CompTIA Network+

CompTIA Network+ Certification is a CompTIA-sponsored testing program, which examines an individual's networking skills. This certification is intended for entry-level network professionals. The CompTIA Network+ certification certifies that the successful candidate knows the layers of the OSI model, can describe the features and functions of network components and has the skills needed to install, configure, and troubleshoot basic networking hardware peripherals and protocols. The Cisco Networking Academy courses, CCNA Discovery or CCNA Exploration and IT Essentials: PC Hardware and Software, helps to prepare students to take the CompTIA Network+ exam.
